Materials Management & Logistics:
"Materials Management" was crystalized during late 70s, to combine and integrate separate business activities of Purchasing and Store Keeping. With the subsequent progress and emerging competition, the business had proceeded for an overall unified approach, with common objectives and targets, requiring harmony and coordination between various operating functions.
The concept of "MATERIALS" therefore spread its wings to include materials in all forms - from input (raw materials) to output (finished goods) through accompanying conversion stages, thus synchronizing and integrating with the operational boundaries. Hence, the era of LOGISTICS with its Supply - Push mechanism was set in. Now with advent of Globalization, the focus stands redirected to delivery and service to the CUSTOMERS, wherein Supply Chain has re-emerged with its new controlling role under Demand - Pull concept. In Supply Chain Management, the conflicting dual tasks of cost-efficient in-house operations and compulsion for Customer Satisfaction need to be harmonized, to face and survive the business competition.
However, the structure of SCM is to be erected on our proven century-old foundation of Systems and Procedures, both covering Materials Er Logistics Management, for Customization is to be embedded in the outline of "Business Process".
